Kelvion Extends Line of Industrial CO2 Air Coolers

German manufacturer Kelvion, successor to the GEA Heat Exchangers Group, recently launched an extension of its CS/CB and CD air cooler (evaporator) ranges with "optimized" coil design and "adapted" tube patterns to meet the demands of industrial refrigeration, including systems using CO2 (R744) and ammonia (R717), said Kelvion in a statement.

"This extension of industrial air coolers builds on Kelvion's track record in refrigeration know-how," Kelvion said, adding that the extension is intended for operations with large refrigeration requirements, including food storage and processing, distribution centers and supermarkets.

The demand for natural refrigerants will be greater in the future, Kelvion said, as traditional refrigerants increase the greenhouse effect. "Furthermore, [natural refrigerants] enable cost-efficient operation due to inexpensive refrigerant production and long-term availability."

Both ranges offer efficiency and operational options that include coil-to-spiral connections, hinged fans, insulated drip trays with anti-condensation heaters and more, said Kelvion.

The CSF/CBF and CSH/CBH ranges are cubic air coolers available as blow- and draw-through versions. For the refrigerant CO2, these units are rated for high-pressure applications up to 90bar (1,305psi) with refrigeration capacities from 5.6 to 175kW (1.6 to 49.8TR). The capacity range for ammonia as a refrigerant is 7.7 to 224kW (2.2 to 63.7TR).

Additional options for the CSF/CBF and CSH/CBH coolers include on the draw side: defrost sock (integrated adapter connection), air throw streamer and fan side suction hood; and on the blow side: diffuser with air operated damper and fin side suction hood. Floor mounting options and insulated disks are available, too.

The CDF and CDH ranges are dual-discharge air coolers, said Kelvion. For the refrigerant CO2, these units are rated for high-pressure applications up to 90bar (1,305psi) with refrigeration capacities from 6.1 to 125kW (1.7 to 35.5TR). The capacity range for ammonia as a refrigerant is 7.9 to 154kW (2.2 to 43.8TR).

Additional options for the CDF and CDH range include insulated fan heating, fan wiring, multiple injections via a distributor and a defrost sensor tube.

On its website, Kelvion says it has 93 facilities worldwide, supplying customers in diverse global sectors, including the HVAC&R and food and beverage industries.
