These TikTok

Here's a head-scratcher: why are we lowkey jealous of a set of kids’ kitchen appliances when we have the real things in our actual kitchen? Maybe it's because the miniature versions are just so super-freaking-adorable. (And, OK, maybe it's because no one is demanding that we produce a real-life meal out of the toy appliances. Yeah, it's probably that.) Whatever the reason, we are not alone in our rabid desire to get our kids these criminally-cute toy appliances: they’ve gone viral on TikTok.

In a TikTok video posted by user @issatete, one mom comes clean. "I’ve been waiting for my kids to go back to school so I can play with their little toys," she confesses, and then demonstrates exactly why — putting water into a teeny-tiny pressure cooker, which emits puffs of kid-safe mist that looks like real steam. She then moves over to a miniature air fryer, which has a basket full of pretend french fries at the ready. She pushes a few (actually-beeping, adorably labeled) buttons, and voila — the fries are done and they’ve changed color.

Not gonna lie, we are as mesmerized as children by the lights and sounds and the overall appeal of these kids’ kitchen appliances — and so is everybody else, apparently. "Nothing brings back my childhood imagination more than a kids’ kitchen set or cash register," one commenter said (and, honestly, same!). Another unapologetically declared she was getting first dibs: "My kids are homeschooled and I’m still gonna be sitting right in front of them playing with all the gadgets cuz hold on I didn't have this growing up let me use it first."

With intricate details and realistic buttons, lights, sounds, and actions, reviewers say these kids’ kitchen appliances — both the set highlighted in the TikTok and a separate set that includes a Keurig-esque coffee maker, a stand mixer, and a blender — offer kids hours of play that lets them feel like they’re using the real things, but safely. All water and "steam" functions are non-heated so there's no risk of a burn, and the blender has a safety feature that allow the "blades" to spin only when the button is being pressed down.

Let's be honest, parents: though playing with our kids is important, it's not always at the top of our list of fun things to do (for us, anyway). But when there are toys involved that we’re literally tempted to play with all by ourselves … well, that sweetens the (tiny, detailed, working!) pot.
