The Best Air Fryers with Rotisserie of 2024, Tested by Experts

We tested dozens of air fryers and air fryer toaster ovens, and found the top picks for the best with rotisserie.

Air fryers can obviously air-fry, but also reheat and so much more. But finding one that also has a rotisserie function can be difficult. At the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliance and Innovation Lab, we tested over 40 toaster ovens and more than 50 air fryers over the years and found the best that have rotisserie functions. So if you love rotisserie chicken, you can make it right at home.

An air fryer with rotisserie gives you a cooking experience you wouldn’t get when roasting in a traditional oven, toaster oven or air fryer. A rotisserie uses a spit, which suspends meat while simultaneously rotating it. This method allows all sides to be exposed to the heating elements for even cooking and color. The suspended roasting technique lets juices from meat drip to the bottom of the oven, so your food isn’t sitting in its fats and oils.

After looking at many options and testing them in our Lab, we narrowed the top-performing picks down to the Instant Pot Vortex Plus and the Cosori Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo. The Instant Pot is an air fryer oven, which is a type of air fryer that often comes with rotisserie attachments while the Cosori is an air fryer toaster oven. The two styles differ in design and functionality. Here’s how each performed in our tests:

One of the reasons the Vortex Plus was a winner in our best air fryer story is because its rotisserie makes roasting chicken simple, even for novice cooks. This particular model from Instant allows you to cook foods like whole chicken, pork roasts and more. When testing, we used the roasting function to make a 4-pound chicken and the result was a juicy, evenly cooked bird browned to perfection.

Using the roasting function was simple: We inserted the spit into the chicken, placed it into the appropriate roasting hooks inside the oven and used the easy-to-follow control panel to set the time and temperature. While cooking, the drip tray (which also doubles as a baking sheet) catches all the juices, making clean-up easier. The 10-quart air fryer also has a roasting basket, which air-fried evenly crisp and browned French fries.

Besides roasting a chicken, the Vortex Pro performed well when air-frying chicken wings using the included perforated tray. The wings were evenly cooked and crispy on both sides, while remaining juicy on the inside. However, when baking a cake, we noticed that this model's fan and heating elements were too powerful. So when baking delicate foods, we recommend cutting the cooking time to accommodate for the oven's strength.

The Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo from Cosori performed well in all of our tests, earning some of the highest scores. When testing the rotisserie setting, we noticed that the chicken was very juicy, cooked evenly and had a beautiful browning all around. To catch the juices, the included food tray slides right into the bottom shelf to protect the heating elements from drips and splatter. The tray also can be used for baking or broiling.

The set also comes with an air-fryer basket and, of course, a rotisserie spit. There are convenient presets for cookies, bagels and pizza along with traditional functions like bake, toasting, broiling and more. Another highlight is the size. The combination oven has a large 32-quart capacity although it isn’t bulky like similar models.

One thing we did notice while testing is that the chicken wings needed a bit more time while using the air-fryer setting, more than our usual 20 minutes. Though it needed additional time, the end result was juicy and evenly cooked with a crispy exterior.

✔️ Type: When shopping for an air fryer with rotisserie, you first have to decide whether you want a standalone air fryer oven or an air fryer toaster oven. An air fryer oven is an air fryer that typically has several air fryer shelves instead of a basket. Its heating elements are often on the top of the oven. This style is great for air-frying foods that benefit from cooking in a single layer, like different types of protein. Many also come with rotisserie spits and baskets. An air fryer toaster oven is a toaster oven that can toast, bake, roast, broil and often more in addition to air-fry. Some come with a rotisserie feature, but it’s not common.

✔️ Exposed heating elements: To prevent a lot of smoke while cooking, Kitchen Appliance and Innovation Lab Director Nicole Papanoniou recommends looking for air fryer toaster ovens with protected heating elements. "It's ideal to have a model that protects the calrods, a type of heating element, from grease and juices that can splatter and drip while cooking. If they aren't protected, grease hitting the elements can cause lots of smoke or even fires."

✔️ Size: If you plan on cooking larger items, keep an eye on the size of the oven. According to the brand, the Instant Pot Vortex Plus can handle a chicken that is up to 4 pounds. Cosori doesn't list the maximum weight that the Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo can hold, but the oven has a 32-quarts capacity. While testing both machines, we used 4-pound chickens which easily fit into each.

Roasting with a rotisserie provides delicious, juicy and evenly cooked food — providing different results compared to traditional roasting which doesn't expose all sides. The great thing about air fryers with a rotisserie function is that they are so versatile. They have all of the traditional air frying or air fry toaster oven features but can also roast, which is something that most appliances don't offer.

You have plenty of options from meats to veggies, as long as the food is large enough to fit on the spit, or small enough to fit in the air fryer. Popular foods to cook in a rotisserie are a whole chicken, pork roast, whole peppers and pineapples.
