LEGO Disney Duos (43226) Review

LEGO has recently released a few new sets for the Disney 100 celebration and the first one we’ll check out is the Disney Duos (43226). It has 553 pieces and retails for $44.99 and it features characters from various movies.

The set is separated into four instruction booklets so techinally you have have four people building at the same time. The first book is for Beauty and the Beast's Lumiere and Cogsworth. Lumiere is made with mostly gold pieces and he stands on a cone and a dish. The arms are on a cross hole shaft piece so they are able to spin around freely. The hand candles uses a white cake top piece which is brand new. His head is printed on the curved round brick.

The clock shape of Cogsworth is very nicely done. In the middle of his chest, the pendulum is able to move using the key in the back. The arms are on hinges so they are able to move up and down. Cogsworth's face is printed on the dish piece.

As you will see, the characters have a display stand with a printed Disney 100 tile piece in the middle.

Next up, we have Nemo and Squirt from Finding Nemo. Squirt's body uses circle plates to get everything going. The arms and legs are clipped on and the head is on a ball joint. The eyes are printed circle tiles but the rest of his face are stickers. The shell piece is also printed as well.

Nemo has a very straight-forward build to him alterating orange and white parts. The face on the face are printed tiles but the mouth is a sticker. The front and back fins are on hinges.

Following them are Pua and Hei Hei from Moana. Pua has a sitting pose with the front legs going down while the hind legs are to the sides on hinges. The head has no movement except for the stickered ears which are clipped on.

Hei Hei is probably the most simple build character out of the whole set but it does resemble the character from the movie. The feet uses leaf pieces and are stationary. In fact nothing on Hei Hei moves at all. The beady eyes are printed on the round pieces which are also new for this set. Lastly, he has the rock clipped on to his mouth.

Finally, we have Meeko and Percy from Pocahontas. Meeko stands on its hind legs and is holding a biscuit. The head is on a turntable so it can spin a full 360 degrees.

Percy is sitting on its hind legs with the front legs having multiple points of articulation. The head is on a pin so it can also spin a full 360. Percy's eyes are printed while his mouth is a sticker.

Overall, the LEGO Disney Duos (43226) is a cute little set that fans may enjoy building. They’re smaller than I expected but that's not a bad thing as you can easily display them without taking up too much space. The main negative I have with the set is the combination of stickered and printed parts. I’m not sure why LEGO went this route since 90% of the parts are printed including more elaborate ones like for Lumiere and Cogsworth.

Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. The content above represents my own opinion and not the company. Review sets sent in does not guarantee a positive review.
